Danish Modern, 3-Seater Sofa in Red Velvet, Fritz Hansen Style, 1940s
An elegant Scandinavian sofa from the early to mid-20th century, characterized by its balanced proportions, gently curved armrests, and refined upholstery. The sofa is fully upholstered in a deep red velvet, giving it a rich, tactile presence and a quietly luxurious expression. Attributed to the Danish design company Fritz Hansen from the 1940s.
The backrest features subtle button tufting on the front, while the reverse side is detailed with a central wooden panel—an intentional and functional design element typical of the period. This exposed wood detail adds visual interest and allows the sofa to be placed freely in a room, not only against a wall.
Resting on short, slightly curved wooden legs, the sofa maintains a light and elegant stance despite its generous seating. The combination of classic upholstery, restrained ornamentation, and visible woodwork reflects Scandinavian craftsmanship from the transitional years between traditional and modern furniture design.
This beautiful sofa will complement many interior styles. A modern, antique, classic, Scandinavian or an Art Deco home decor.
