Swedish Modern, Set of 4 Multifunctional Shelves in Pine, Late 19th Century

A rare set of Swedish pine wall shelves originating from the Royal Library building in Humlegården, Stockholm. The library, designed by architect Gustaf Dahl and completed in 1877, featured these shelves in the upper book storage floors, where they were mounted on iron brackets integrated into the building’s walls.

During renovations in the 1990s, the shelves were scheduled for disposal but were fortunately preserved, allowing them to remain as authentic architectural fragments from one of Sweden’s historic cultural institutions.

Crafted in pine, the shelves display a warm natural tone and developed patina consistent with over a century of use. Their simple, functional construction reflects the honest material approach associated with Swedish design traditions.

Sold as a set of four.

Versatile in application, they may be used individually, as a continuous shelving system, or creatively adapted — for books, display, or storage solutions.

This fine set of four wall shelves will complement many interior styles. A Vintage, Classic, Scandinavian, Modern, or an Art Deco home decor.
