Sculptural Hand-Carved African Wooden Stool with Geometric Decoration, 1950s
A highly decorative hand-carved African stool dating from the mid-20th century. Carved from a single piece of wood, the stool features a gently curved seat supported by a sculptural openwork base, giving the piece a strong architectural presence.
The exterior is richly decorated with hand-incised geometric patterns in contrasting dark tones, including triangles, cross-hatching and linear motifs. The combination of the graphic decoration, visible carving marks and natural variations in the wood gives the stool a particularly expressive and individual character.
Both functional and highly sculptural, the piece works beautifully as a low stool, small side table or decorative object. Its compact proportions and bold form make it especially suited to interiors combining modern design with folk and ethnographic pieces.
This fine stool will complement many interior styles. A Vintage, Classic, Scandinavian, Modern, or an Art Deco home decor.
