Danish Folk Art High-Back Chair in Oak with Hand-Painted Decoration, Dated 1876
A remarkable Danish Folk Art high-back chair in oak, dated 1876 on the back.
The chair features an unusually tall, sculptural back with original hand-painted floral and geometric decoration in muted orange, green, blue and yellow tones. Decorative finials, painted borders and the distinctive elongated silhouette give the chair a wonderfully individual, handcrafted character.
A rare and highly decorative piece of 19th-century Danish folk furniture, equally appealing as a functional chair or sculptural interior object.
NB: The chair is inscribed “1876” on the back, believed to indicate its date.
