Eva Staehr-Nielsen, Saxbo Bowl, "237", Danish Modern Ceramics, Mid-20th Century

€675.00

A refined stoneware bowl by Saxbo, Denmark. Model 237, executed in a beautifully muted glaze with subtle tonal variations ranging from deep blue-grey to smoky charcoal hues. Designed by Eva Stæhr Nielsen in the 1950s.

The interior features a delicate concentric ring decoration at the base, creating a quiet graphic detail beneath the softly mottled glaze. The surface has the characteristic depth and understated elegance that made Saxbo one of the most respected Danish ceramic workshops of the 20th century.

Marked on the underside: “237 SAXBO DENMARK 9” and “E. st. N.”

This example is a 2nd sort, indicated by two small line marks on the underside. The glaze and overall appearance remain highly decorative and fully functional, with only minor production-related irregularities consistent with Saxbo’s studio practice.

Saxbo ceramics are known for their restrained aesthetic, masterful glaze chemistry, and strong connection to Scandinavian Modern ideals — where craftsmanship and simplicity meet quiet sophistication.

This fine bowl will complement many interior styles. A Vintage, Classic, Scandinavian, Modern, or an Art Deco home decor.
