Atelier Visit: Erling Tingkær
We are pleased to present a selection of sculptures by Danish artist Erling Tingkær.
For more than sixty years, Tingkær has explored the possibilities of form, material and movement. Throughout his career, he has worked across drawing, painting, bronze, stoneware, fibre concrete and large-scale outdoor projects. No matter the medium, his focus remains the same: the sculpture must have its own presence, its own energy, and its own story.
Tingkær’s figures are playful, imaginative and often marked by quiet humour. They seem to occupy a space between reality and the surreal – familiar in shape, yet transformed by unexpected details. Many of his public works around Denmark are created to be experienced physically, inviting touch, curiosity and interaction. In this way, the viewer becomes part of the artwork’s life.
With this presentation, we invite our visitors to discover a sculptural universe full of invention, personality and subtle narrative. Tingkær’s work continues to evolve – and continues to surprise.
Recently, we visited Erling Tingkær in his private atelier for a conversation about his practice and inspirations. Surrounded by sketches and sculptures in progress, he spoke about curiosity as a lifelong engine for experimentation and the joy of watching form emerge through his hands.
